(jp) = The New York State Senate is considering a proposal to introduce a residential parking permit system, which could entail charging residents $30 a month to park outside their homes in an attempt to relieve funding shortages for the Metropolitan Transport Authority. The proposal is aimed at reducing the number of commuter vehicles from New Jersey and Long Island taking up city parking spaces. Critics slammed the proposal, however, as a tactic to generate revenue from middle-class car owners rather than solving parking issues.
