(jp) = Ryan Redington, the grandson of Iditarod Trail founding member Joe Redington Sr., won the world-famous dog sled race on Tuesday by leading six dogs from the Bering Sea ice to the finish line on Nome’s Main Street. Redington became the sixth Alaskan Native musher to win the race after 16 attempts. He previously won the Junior Iditarod in 1999 and 2000. The approximately 1,000-mile race started in Willow on March 5, with 33 mushers taking part, and three of them suffering scrapes. Redington won approximately $50,000 in prize money for his victory.
