(jp) = Antonina “Ann” Uccello, the first woman to be elected mayor in Connecticut and the first woman elected to the nation’s capital, has passed away at the age of 100. Uccello served under Nixon, Ford, and Carter as a consumer affairs official and is remembered for her intelligence, resilience, and determination. She worked to protect children from lead poisoning and supported the construction of low- and middle-income housing. Uccello was a devout Christian and never married. Her funeral will be held next week, and she will be buried in the historic Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
