(jp) = A man from Chicago has been charged with first-degree murder for violently stabbing his ex-girlfriend on a train platform, according to police. Alejandro Arellano, 31, was arrested after the killing of Samantha Maldonado, 26, on Sunday. In a press conference announcing the charges, Deputy Superintendent Eric Carter said Maldonado had named Arellano as her attacker before passing away. Prosecutors said the couple had been colleagues and dated for six months until breaking up last week. Arellano is alleged to have followed Maldonado onto the train platform, where he attacked her with a knife. She died from her injuries.
