(jp) = North Korea has fired two short-range ballistic missiles off its east coast on Tuesday, amid the largest joint military exercise between South Korea and the US in years. According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), the missiles were launched at around 7.40 a.m. local time and travelled about 385 miles. Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, Hirokazu Matsuno, said there had been no confirmed damage in Japan. The launches were condemned by South Korea as a serious provocation that threatened regional peace and security. The US said the missile tests did not pose an imminent threat to US personnel or territory or its allies.
